Cool-season grass

Turf

In plain English

Cool-season grasses dominate the northern half of the US — roughly above I-40. Tall fescue, Kentucky bluegrass, and perennial ryegrass are the big three. They peak in spring and fall and slow dramatically in mid-summer heat.

Why it matters for lawn care operators

If you operate in a cool-season region, your route revenue is concentrated in spring (April–June) and fall (September–October). Summer heat can knock 20–30% off mowing frequency. Plan your cash flow accordingly.
